Zirt/Northern Lights/2013 Album Review

This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Zirt  with  the  musical  style  being  dark  ambient  with  elements  of  black  metal  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Northern  Lights".

Drums  and  bass  guitar  are  all  absent  from  this  recording,  while  the  synths  being  a  very  dark, atmospheric,  experimental  and  ambient  sound  to  the  recording  while  still  retaining  the  influence  of  Burzum's  dark  ambient  albums  and  works.

Rhythm  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  are  mostly  single  note  repetitive  riffs  with  only  a  small  amount  of   power  chords  being  used  which  brings  in  the  drone  elements  to  the  album,  while  the  lead  guitars  which  are  only  used  briefly  are  very  dark  sounding  ambient  metal  guitar  leads.

Vocals  and  songwriting  are  all  absent  from  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  song  themes  cover  depression,  mental  illness  and  human  suffering,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Zirt  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  influenced  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nostalgia"  and  "Dementia".  RECOMMENDED.
